The necessary advice for treating the water in a Zodiac Original pool
Important advance information:
- All chemicals must be compatible with the Zodiac Original PVC pool liner.
- Zodiac Original is not compatible with a salt chlorinator.
-There are several treatments for your pool water, we will only talk about chlorine treatment here.
- Water is a living environment, so its maintenance requires regular monitoring. A bad treatment can lead to a proliferation of pathogenic germs, algae, bacteria, viruses, fungi etc... which can modify the nature of the water, its color and promote the development of stains on the PVC lining which can be irreparable (exclusion of the guarantee).
For an effective water treatment, the acidity (pH) should be between 7.2 and 7.4. Always check and adjust the pH of the water before any operation. To do this, use a product control kit (pH- to decrease and pH+ to increase the pH).
For a preventive action against the development and proliferation of algae and fungi, use a control kit and anti-algae, algicide-fungicide products (do not mix with chlorinated products).
Chlorine products are essential for the destruction of bacteria. Be careful, the pH changes the proportion of chlorine that is really active (the one that destroys the bacteria). Follow the instructions in the control kit and on the products.
If the water in your pool is perfectly clear, with no chlorine odor, you should still provide a maintenance treatment with slow chlorine and anti-algae (the chlorine level should be between 1 and 2 PPM and the pH between 7.2 and 7.4). Furthermore, a well adjusted pH will optimize the efficiency of the chlorine.
Treatments to be performed
- Chlorine shock treatment:
Use rapid chlorine (powder or granules) when putting the pool in water, winterizing it and putting it back into service. Precaution: dissolve the rapid chlorine in a bucket (or a watering can) filled with water and distribute this mixture in the pool, with the filtration system running. Avoid running the filtration pump during the night to avoid noise pollution.
- Maintenance treatment:
Use a slow chlorine (pebbles) in the skimmer to maintain a satisfactory level of disinfectant. Be careful, never put chlorine in direct contact with the PVC liner as this would cause the liner to discolor and break irreversibly (exclusion of warranty). Ask our distributors for advice when purchasing.
Chlorine dosage
Important: follow the instructions on the product.
- This dosage depends on :
- the amount of water in the basin to be treated,
- the number of people using the pool,
- weather conditions. In case of stormy weather for example, or in case of high water temperature, special monitoring of the water quality is required and may require the addition of chlorine to prevent the water from turning green.
Wait a minimum of 12 hours between each treatment, while running your filtration.
- If you do not dismantle the pool every year :
To avoid over-stabilization due to repeated use of chlorine, renew one third of your water every year.
